Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all competitive and contact roller derby has been suspended. With safety as our a top priority, our outdoor recreational facility is able to provide a lower risk fitness offering to San Diegians of all genders age 13+ seeking to get moving. Though we are a long way from returning to the game of roller derby, we are happy to offer limited capacity outdoor class for Derby Bootcamp and Skate Fitness for Derby as well as Recreational Instruction and Open Skate Sessions.
Intro to Derby: Mondays at 5pm
Brand new to the sport of roller derby? Ready to get rolling? Enroll in “Intro to Derby” for this one time class any Monday at 5pm. Geared toward adult and young adult future derby players, we will familiarize you with derby gear and training and get you ready for you first Derby Bootcamp lesson. All new players must take this class one-time before proceeding to Bootcamp.
Derby Bootcamp: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6pm
Already been enrolled in the pre-pandemic Derby United Bootcamp program at some point? Or taken the Intro to Derby class and ready to move into your training? This on-skates training will help prepare new derby skaters for the essential skills need to play roller derby including: stops, falls, balance, agility, laterals and other fitness and skate skills. Skaters will work toward checking off essential skills needed to meet the Minimum Skills Requirements (MSR) to eventually be able to play competitive roller derby. Monday will be both banked and flat track training, Wednesday will be all banked and Thursday will be all flat. Any enrolled skater may attend any day.
Skate Fitness for Derby: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7pm
This no-contact skating practice is open to folks who has passed MSRs and/or Derby United Bootcamp. This course focuses on skating skills and fitness for derby. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, no contact or playing of roller derby will take in this class. Skaters will work toward improve strength, agility and fitness to eventually be able to apply those skills when we return to competitive roller derby. Monday will be both banked and flat track training, Wednesday will be all banked and Thursday will be all flat. Any enrolled skater may attend any day.
Eligibility
All Derby Trainings are open to folks of all genders who are age 13+. All participants must have their own helmet, knee and elbow pads and wristguards. Mouthguard is optional. Rental skates are available at no charge. All guests and participants at Derby United Headquarters must wear masks and socially distance at all times, including throughout their instruction. All visitors to HQ are asked to familiarize themselves with our facility safety protocol and self-screen daily before leaving home.
Preregistration & Punch Card Memberships
Those entering the facility must always be pre-registered to participate in any class or open session. No drop ins or walk ups are allowed at any time. One parent or guardian of youth skaters may remain on site and must stay properly distanced and away from the track. Guests with special needs that may require an additional entry may reach out for individual accommodations.
Given the changing local impact of the pandemic, in place of monthly membership, Derby United will be utilizing a digital “Punch Card” system through our membership software, Zen Planner. Punch cards may be utilized in that program category ie. Derby Fitness punch cards are separate from Recreational Instruction or Open Sessions. Punch card memberships may be purchased here.
Safety is our number one concern for participants and guests at Derby United. Folks who violate the safety procedures may be asked to leave the facility. No refunds will be given.
