San Diego Derby United and SoCal Derby welcome new and transfer skaters throughout the year.
The adult leagues are open to those aged 18 and over, and our junior program enrolls skaters aged 7-17. Derby United is the only program in the world that has been ranked nationally on both banked, and flat track. We are proud to offer San Diego roller derby players RDCL, WFTDA, MRDA, and JRDA competitive options. While some skaters favor one track over the other, most of our members are bitraxual and have utilized skills from each track to help them improve their skating on any surface.
No experience is required. The Derby United coaches will teach you roller skating and the game of roller derby from the ground up. Every new member joins the leagues through the Bootcamp training program. During this time you will get instruction, and assessments, from experienced coaches. Transfer skaters may sidestep Bootcamp altogether, depending on their previous experience. Whether you are brand new to skating or transferring to play in the RDCL, WFTDA, MRDA, or JRDA, we’ve got you covered on both the banked and flat tracks in one accommodating central San Diego location.
Women’s Programs
(Women 18+) San Diego Derby United has a multi-tier training system to get you ready to become a full-fledged roller derby player! After attending orientation, new athletes join a 2-level Bootcamp training program to groom them into great skaters. With teams in the RDCL (women’s banked) and WFTDA (women’s flat), we train new skaters on both tracks, offering our participants the chance to find their derby passion on any surface.
Bootcamp practices are held at our private training facility in central San Diego four days a week. After graduating from Bootcamp, skaters move on to bouting-level and, after a brief introductory period, are eligible to be drafted to the women’s Derby United and SoCal Derby teams.
Men’s Programs
(Unrestricted Gender 18+) In 2019, The Aftershocks, San Diego’s Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA) team, joined the Derby United family. This program is America’s Finest men’s derby team, and the first of its kind in San Diego. Unrestricted gender participants join the Derby United umbrella just as women do, through the monthly orientations. Skaters will pass through the multi-tiered Bootcamp training, learning the necessary minimum skills, and an understanding of the game, to be well prepared to join the competitive men’s team.
Bootcamp practices are held at our private training facility in central San Diego four days a week. After graduating from Bootcamp, skaters move onto the league-level and are able to become eligible to bout with the Aftershocks.

Officials Program
Roller Derby Officials face a fast-paced, but very rewarding, environment – working under two sets of rules, with skaters and officials from leagues both local and national. The San Diego Derby United officials team, known as the Stripes, fill many positions for bouts and practice, in order to provide a safe, fair, and fun environment for the skaters and fans.
The Stripes Officials Team is actively recruiting for skating, and non-skating, officials. Yearning to participate but not skate? Perhaps a Non-Skating Official position is for you! No skating or referee experience required. Eligible Stripes enjoy the benefits of Bootcamp at no charge.
