ROLLER DERBY IS BACK!
We are recruiting new and returning skaters to our San Diego roller derby programs. Want to train to become a roller derby player? No experience necessary. We’ll teach you everything you need to know to become a competitive player with our roller derby teams. Attend our next no-cost informational orientation and see a derby scrimmage in-person and find more about the Derby United programs.

Derby United is proud to be the only dedicated San Diego roller derby facility and we are proud to offer multiple leagues on both the banked and flat track: RDCL (all banked competitive), WTFDA (SoCal Derby women’s flat competitive), MRDA (Aftershocks open gender flat competitive) and JRDA (Tremors youth flat competitive)
Roller Derby practices are currently open to all skaters of all genders, age 13 and over for most programs. We are not yet able to offer a youth program below 12 but we do anticipate its return in the near future.

6-7p Roller Derby 101 (Flat Track)
7-9p Return to Derby 201 (Flat Track)
6-7p Derby Fundamentals 151 (Flat Track)
7-9p SoCal Derby (Flat Track – WFTDA Members only)
10-12p Return to Derby 201 (Banked Track)
12-1p Roller Derby 101 (Banked Track)
PREREQUISITES
Roller Derby 101 – Attendees must attend and/or be passed out of Learn/Return to Skate Instructed Class. Open to skaters of any gender 13+. This practice focuses on skate skills needed for derby ie. Plows, T-stops, toe stops, transitions, agility, stride and more. Full gear required: helmet, elbow and knees pads and wrist guards.
Derby Fundamentals 151 – Attendees must attend and/or be passed out of Roller Derby 101. Open to skaters of any gender 13+. This practice focuses on derby and contact skills needed for understand and to play the game ie. Taking hits, Receiving contact, rules of the game, basic strategies. Full gear required.
Return to Derby 201 – Attendees must have been a bouting level roller derby player or passed MSRs for any roller derby league. Open to skaters of any gender 13+. This practice focuses on skate skills, strength and fitness level needed for skaters to safely return to full contact roller derby. Full gear required.
SoCal Derby – Attendees must have current WFTDA insurance.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
We STRONGLY encourage all participants in San Diego roller derby programs to be vaccinated but it is not required. We do not require masks or physical distancing, however all practices are all listed as Vax Req or Unrestricted. Attendees must present proof of vaccination (digital or physical) to check-in staff at every practices. Unrestricted does not have a vaccination or testing requirement.
All roller derby programs require use of helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wrist guards. Mouth guards are required for contact. Need help with recommendations? Go see our friends at Sin City Skates in person at their Kearny Mesa location or online.

Ready to sign up for a practice? Head to the Online Zen Planner Calendar and click on the offering of your choice to begin registration.
You do not have to reserve in advance to attend practice, however practices with zero reservations two hours before the start will be cancelled. If cancelled, it will no longer be visible on the schedule. No official notice will be sent to all of our members for no-reservations cancellations. You may reserve yourself for a practice and cancel the reservation with no penalty up to 2 hours before the practice.
