After five hard-fought bouts, the San Diego Wildfires came home from Battle on the Bank XII with a third place finish.  Not only is Battle the event where teams compete for the national championship, it is also the one time of year all the programs of the Roller Derby Coalition of Leagues (RDCL) come together in one place.  Derby United has so much gratitude, respect and love for Southside Roller Derby of Houston, TX, this year’s tournament hosts, along with all the people of the RDCL community.

Thank you to Arizona Derby Dames for making the semifinal game one of great athleticism and sportspersonship. It’s hard to get knocked out of Battle on the Bank, but it is always a pill best swallowed with admiration and pride for a game well played.

Thank you to every one of our opponents that we met on the track out there in Houston, Texas. You are a classy group of people and you make playing banked track roller derby such a joy. Thank you to South Side Roller Derby who put on an amazing event. We know your members and supporters worked day and night to make all those games happen, to make the skaters and staff feel comfortable and doing it all with grace. Thank you to the massive crews of officials from all over the nation who came out and make the game safe and competitive for all who partake. Thank you to the army of supporters from the medics, announcers, photographers, videographers, web team, and the staff in all positions who make everything from the door to the vendors to the photo booth happen. You all are extraordinary humans.

It takes massive effort to make an event like that so successful. Thank you to all who made a piece of that magic happen. We are closing the books on this year’s San Diego Wildfires season. Congrats on well-fought third place finish.
